Which ceremonies can you hire a celebrant for?

If you are planning a ceremony, you might be interested in hiring a celebrant to help plan and oversee it. Hiring celebrants is increasingly popular, largely due to the flexibility they can offer, as well as the range of ceremonies they can write and deliver. Below is a list of some of the most common ceremonies overseen by a celebrant. Should you be keen to speak to a celebrant about any of their services, we have an extensive directory you can browse and choose from.

Funerals

If you are recently bereaved and looking for a reliable, trustworthy and compassionate celebrant, we can help. A funeral celebrant can conduct a funeral service and ensure that the ceremony happens according to your values and wishes, as well as the wishes of the deceased. You will receive guidance and support throughout the process, ensuring every aspect of the funeral goes to plan. Funeral celebrants offer non-religious ceremonies, so can be the perfect choice if you feel a religious option is not suitable. They will meet with you in advance, write the eulogy and give you clarity on what to expect during the ceremony.

Weddings

Wedding celebrants take centre stage at a wedding, guiding you and your wedding party and guests through the process. In addition to helping you write your wedding vows, a celebrant also writes a unique and captivating wedding script that reflects you as a couple. Music, themes and order of service are all discussed, and the celebrant gets to know you during the engagement to ensure that the wedding truly reflects your wishes, personalities and preferences. Celebrants offer couples flexibility and creativity, so can be the perfect choice for those wishing for a ceremony with unique flavour.

Baby Naming Ceremonies

Baby naming is a modern alternative to a religious baptism and can be a truly memorable and special event for a family. The parents may want to involve a professional to oversee the day’s activities and ensure it all goes to plan. That’s where a celebrant comes in. The celebrant will get to know you as a family, ask you about your ceremony preferences and any rituals you may wish to have included.

Renewal of Vows

Vow renewals and weddings are not dissimilar. A vow renewal simply involves re-doing your vows while still married. There are many different reasons you may want to renew your vows. It could be that you have marked a special anniversary and wish to update your promises to one another. It might be that you separated for some time and have now reconciled. Whatever your reason, a celebrant can help you to write new vows, re-tell your love story in a unique way and celebrate once more in a way that is fitting to who you are now as a couple.

Gender Reassignment / Naming Ceremony

If you have gone through a gender transition, you might be keen to share your name and identity with the world. Our celebrants wish to support you in this and can offer you a naming ceremony. In this case, the celebrant would meet with you and get to know your story, guide you through the ceremony, include rituals that are meaningful to you, and help your family, friends and yourself to celebrate this incredible milestone.

It is important to understand that not all celebrants will offer all types of ceremonies. But those who have trained with ICPC will have been trained in all of those listed above, and can be a good place to begin when searching for a celebrant. If your ceremony is not listed here, feel free to ask the celebrants in our directory if they offer it. We are committed to ensuring your ceremony is meaningful, memorable and special, no matter what it is you are celebrating.
